In 1996, the City initiated a Community Policing Program funded through a grant through the Federal Enterprise Zone. All City officers have been trained in Community Oriented Policing techniques to facilitate a greater understanding between the police and the citizens they serve, as well as to forge a trusting partnership designed to address crime and other community problems. While this grant has since expired, the police continue to practice the principles of community policing which have proven to enhance not only their relationship with the community, by address crime and quality of life issues as well.
